The problem

The residents of Loolera and Lembapuli have insufficient clean (drinking) water. The Ashe Foundation is bringing change to this situation.

Our goal

This project aims to make sufficient clean and safe drinking water accessible to the community in Loolera and Lambapuli.

How will we do this?

Current situation

Loolera and Lembapuli are adjacent villages in the interior of Tanzania where more than 10,000 Maasai families live with their livestock. In both villages, there is insufficient clean (drinking) water available.

The problem

This means that the women in the Maasai community have to fill their water tanks at night, so they can collect enough water for their families. The women who are too late find the dog in the pot; there is no clean (drinking) water for the families. As a result, they resort to contaminated water. Additionally, the shortage also means that there is too little clean water available in the hospital of both villages, with all the consequences that entails.

Our solution

Ashe Foundation will address the water infrastructure with this initiative. Specifically, new water pipes will be installed from a mountain that is 5km away from Loolera. This will allow sufficient clean water to flow from the mountain to the water collection point. This has a major impact on all 10,000+ Maasai families. Newly installed water pipes means clean drinking water for everyone! We do this with local experts, so that the maintenance can also be locally supported and this project is sustainable for the future.

"Since I've been back in the Netherlands, I'm amazed at how I've taken for granted that I can simply turn on my tap and clean water comes out. It's something I've come to appreciate more through my life in Tanzania."
