Water for everyone!

Improving Water Supply

Amy: "Since I've been back in the Netherlands, I am amazed at how taken for granted I have become about simply turning on the tap and having clean water come out. It’s a convenience I have come to appreciate more after my time in Tanzania. I no longer have to walk 1 km with 20 liters of water on my back, like the women do, to fetch clean water. It’s an experience I will never forget! And one that, in my opinion, can be different."

That’s why we, at the Ashe Foundation, are working to improve and strengthen the water supply in the rural areas of Tanzania. And we want to do this in a sustainable and long-lasting way.

In the Loolera area of Tanzania, Dutch people laid water pipes in the 1990s to provide clean water to about 10,000 indigenous Maasai. However, these pipes have not been maintained due to a lack of knowledge and financial resources, making clean water difficult to access.

It’s time for change! And this time, we aim to do it sustainably so that they won’t face the same challenge in 30 years.

We’re fortunate that in the Netherlands, there is an abundance of knowledge about water management. To make this project a success, we are eager to make use of that expertise!
